The TOPRAN Distributor Cap (101 971) is an original-equipment-quality ignition system component manufactured by TOPRAN. Positioned directly atop the engine's mechanical ignition distributor housing, its primary function is to safely insulate and distribute the high-voltage electrical charges received from the ignition coil. As the internal distributor rotor arm spins, the current arcs across to the internal metal contacts of this cap, sending a high-intensity spark down the high-tension (HT) ignition leads to each spark plug in the correct firing order. Over time, moisture, ozone generation, and thermal cycling cause micro-cracks in the composite housing or oxidation on the brass contacts, leading to engine misfires, poor fuel economy, and rough idling.
